The smart card can serve as a prepaid or a postpaid ticket for public transportation fares. In fact, JCB is now supporting major railway companies in supplying smart cards that combine the functions of credit card and transportation tickets.




JCB is part of the pilot project for Sapporo subway system
now being conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure
and Transport and the Sapporo government.

The pilot project started in January 2003 to support postpaid transportation fares. JCB provides the payment services by charging subway fares to the user's bank account or JCB card on a monthly basis.
