In order to offer the same convenience and services to JCB cardmembers wherever they may be, we have tirelessly worked to increase the overall number of JCB merchant establishments worldwide. After beginning our international expansion program in 1981, we began to recruit merchants in destinations frequently visited by Japanese tourists. Our gradual expansion, which paralleled the increasing number of Japanese tourists traveling overseas, firmly established the global presence of the JCB brand.

JCB cards are now issued in 20 countries and territories, with a 57.7 million cardmember base and 62.7 billion US dollar in annual sales, making JCB the undisputed leader of Japanfs credit card market and one of the worldfs major international card brands.
At present, JCBfs focus is shifting from the core Japanese tourist cardmember base to a new business model, emphasizing local issuers and their cardmembers, and providing the kinds of services that will enable our partners to gain a competitive edge in their market.
