The most important holidays in Japan are New Year's Day (Oshogatsu) and Lantern Festival (Obon). Almost every shop is closed during these holidays and the traffic will be heavy this time of year. However, unlike other Asian countries, the Japanese do not celebrate Chinese New Years. This is why many foreign tourists choose this time of the year to visit Japan.

Tokyo
A basic charge of the Tokyo taxi is about 710 yen. The first multiplication fare is 710 yen up to 2km, and the fare goes up by 90 yen per 288m.

Osaka

There are two types of taxi in Osaka. The fares are also different between compact and mid-size taxies.

Mid-size	660yen for the first 2km, and 80yen per 273m after.
Compact	640yen for the first 2km, and 80yen per 305m after.

The fare goes up by 80yen per 228m for the mid-sized and by 80yen per 254m for the compact sized in the early morning and around midnight(23:00-05:00).
You do not have to tip taxi drivers.




Domestic calls Recently, the number of pay phone has decreased dramatically because of the increasing number of mobile phone users. However, you can still find the pay phones easily downtown or inside of stations. You can use pay phones with coins or telephone cards. You can purchase telephone cards at vending machine located inside pay phone boothes or in convenience stores. 500yen,1000yen,3000yen,and 5000yen cards are available 1000yen telephone cards are the most popular. <Direct call> International call identification number : 010 + Country Code <Collect call> Dial 0051 and : tell operator "collect call please", and then the country code and telephone number. Mobile phone can be rented and used for both domestic and international calls in Narita and Kansai airports. Reservation of rental mobile phone If you make a reservation through JCB Plaza Tokyo in advance, you can simply pick up your mobile phone when you arrive at the airport.
